Walking on beaches is brilliant.
Beach Walking.
The high tide is the governing factor for long and safe walks on the beaches at Elie and Earlsferry. Care is required, if venturing round headlands, to avoid being stranded by the tide. For a person used to the mountains of Scotland there are sporting routes over skellies and the famous Chain Walk.
For the walker there are beautiful bays with firm sand to walk round. Choose your spot at the edge of the sea and the sense of isolation and wildness can be as good as the middle of nowhere. The views over headlands and bays are fractal. The rock pools reflect this as do the skies and the waves.
Bird life is busy around the interface of land and sea. As the tide rises the wading birds are pushed further up the beach, until at high tide they are huddled together on the rocks and beach, where they are easily observed.
The Fife Coastal Path, paths and rights of way can be combined to to give routes that join and leave the beach. For the best fun, stay on the beach, watch for the high tide, explore and find yourself moving along to the rhythms of the sea.
Spring is in the air! On warm days the scent of primroses wafts across your path, these yellow jewels hug the sunniest banks. The heronry is filled with nesting birds and cacophony of sea birds can be seen nesting on the cliffs. The farmers are busy in the fields and the lakes of plastic sheeting shimmer in the sunshine. Crops are pushing there way through the earth. Soon the coastal path and countryside will be lush and green.
Now is a great time to visit Elie and enjoy the beautiful beaches and countryside, the peace and tranquility on the Coastal Path is tangible.
