Cycling in Fife has taken on a new dimension in recent years with the advent of the Fife Cycleways. The new Superfast Ferry is an exciting development for cyclists from Europe with the opening of the Zeebrugge to Rosyth ferry by Superfast Ferries. The Superfast Ferry will bring opportunities for cycling in Scotland without the problems of passing through the south of England.

The Rosyth to Zeebrugge ferry re-establishes the historic sea links between Fife and Europe. The village of Elie, Fife prospered in the past as did many of the Villages of the East Neuk of Fife from their links with Europe. The traditional pantiles found on many houses in Elie and all over the East Neuk of Fife, were brought over as ballast by the ships coming for cargoes of salt, corn and fish.

The spring months are great for cycling in Fife. If the main roads are avoided. The weather is often fine and a sheltered spot behind a hedge or dyke can provide a sun trap in which to enjoy a puff and a cup of tea.

The Fife Cycleways and the quiet back roads of Fife give the opportunity for leisurely and safe exploration of beautiful and historic Scotland.

Cycling in and around Elie you can quickly find yourself in a different world. Cycling along the back roads and off road sections of the East Neuk Cycleways is a great chance to really see the area. On the quieter sections of road few cars will intrude.

All along the coastal road there are opportunities to reach the beach. A quick walk down a path or track will take you to quiet coves and beaches or to the top of cliffs and headlands.
